Joint Committee on Teaching-Load Distribution (JCTLD)
16 July 2021 • CMCFA Executive
Dear Faculty of the Canadian Military Colleges. The Joint Committee on Teaching-Load Distribution (JCTLD) would like to inform you of the status of the committee and its efforts to examine workload at the CMCs. The Terms of Reference for the committee require that the JCTLD “consult current and former department heads, appropriate representatives from management, and other members of the broader faculty to determine the current and historical policies and practices related to the distribution of teaching workload at the colleges.” Accordingly, all faculty members will have the opportunity to confer with the committee.
More broadly, the JCTLD will:
- research scholarship, studies, reports, and collective agreements in order to assess approaches to measuring and distributing workload (ongoing);
- solicit feedback from heads and chairs on their understandings of workload distribution, including their concerns regarding inequities (Summer and Fall 2021);
- solicit feedback from faculty in writing and in person on their experiences and concerns regarding workload distribution in their departments (Fall 2021); and
- consult with internal and external stakeholders as necessary (no timeline).
More precise information on when and how faculty may engage with the committee will be forthcoming. In the meantime, please reach out to the co-chairs of the committee, Huw Osborne and Jim Denford, if you have any questions or concerns.
